“How much does junk removal cost?”
We get this question almost every day at Raccoon Junk Removal, and it makes sense. If you’ve never hired a junk removal company before, it can be difficult to look at a garage full of furniture or a basement packed with boxes and have any idea what it will cost to make it all disappear.
The short answer is: Most of our junk removal pricing is based on volume, or how much space your items take up in our truck.
That usually leads to the next question:
“Okay… but how much does your truck actually hold?”
The answer: A LOT.
So instead of simply telling you, we decided to show you.
How Much Can a Junk Removal Truck Hold?
We filmed the Raccoon Crew loading one of our box trucks from completely empty all the way to full.
As the crew loaded, we kept count.
Couches. Recliners. Bookshelves. Fans. Boxes. Household items. Furniture. And plenty more.
We packed everything together the way we would on a normal junk removal job and watched the numbers climb until the truck was packed from floor to ceiling.
If you’re trying to estimate the cost of your own cleanout, watching this video can give you a much better idea of just how much stuff can fit into one truckload.
How Does Junk Removal Pricing Work?
At Raccoon Junk Removal, we generally charge by the job rather than by the hour.
Volume is the biggest factor. In simple terms, the more of the truck you fill, the more the job costs.
For example, a customer getting rid of a couch and a few boxes will pay considerably less than someone cleaning out an entire basement.
But volume isn’t the only consideration.
Every cleanout is different, so our pricing may also take into account things such as:
- Extremely heavy materials or items
- Long walking or carrying distances
- Stairs or difficult access
- Jobs requiring significantly more labor or time than normal
- Items requiring special disposal
- Materials with unusually high disposal costs
- Jobs requiring specialized equipment
Our goal is to give you a clear price based on the actual work involved in completing your cleanup.
Why Is Estimating Junk Removal by Volume So Difficult?
This is probably the hardest part for customers.
A pile of furniture in your garage doesn’t look anything like that same furniture once an experienced crew has packed it tightly into a box truck.
A couch may look enormous sitting by itself. But once our crew starts stacking boxes around it, placing smaller items into empty spaces, standing furniture upright, and packing everything efficiently, you might be surprised by how much fits.
That’s exactly why we made our truck-fill video.
Instead of asking you to imagine what a fraction of a truck looks like, you can actually watch a truck go from empty to full and compare it with what you have at home.
What Types of Cleanouts Do We Handle?
Sometimes you just need an old couch gone.
Other times, you’re standing in front of an entire house wondering where to even begin.
We handle both.

Estate and Whole-House Cleanouts
One of our specialties is helping families empty entire homes.
Estate cleanouts can be especially difficult because you’re often dealing with much more than junk. There may be furniture to donate, family photographs to save, sentimental belongings mixed into boxes, recyclable materials, trash, and decades of accumulated possessions.
Our team approaches these cleanouts carefully and respectfully.
Whenever possible, we separate usable items for donation, recycle appropriate materials, and look out for personal or sentimental belongings that may have accidentally been mixed into the clutter.
Whether you’re settling a family estate, preparing a property for sale, downsizing, or simply trying to reclaim a home that has accumulated too much stuff, we can help you make a plan.
Junk Removal for Realtors, Landlords and Property Managers
Sometimes a cleanout isn’t just about getting your space back—there’s a deadline.
A home needs to be photographed.
A listing needs to hit the market.
A new tenant is waiting.
A closing date is approaching.
We regularly work with real estate professionals, landlords, property managers, and homeowners who need properties cleaned out quickly so they can move on to the next step.
Having the right crew, trucks, and equipment can turn what feels like a week-long project into a much more manageable process.
Do You Have to Get Rid of Everything?
Absolutely not.
A cleanout doesn’t have to mean emptying an entire property.
Sometimes the goal is simply to make a crowded garage usable again, clear a pathway through a basement, remove old furniture from a barn, or finally tackle that pile that’s been growing for years.
You decide what stays. We remove what you want gone.
There is no minimum level of clutter required to call a junk removal company.
We all have a little junk. Sometimes you just need a few extra hands—and a really big truck—to get things back under control.
What Happens to the Items You Remove?
Getting something out of your house doesn’t necessarily mean it needs to go straight to the landfill.
Whenever practical, Raccoon Junk Removal works to give usable items another opportunity.
We regularly separate items that can be donated or recycled and work with local organizations throughout Western North Carolina to help keep useful belongings in the community.
Not everything can be saved, but responsible disposal is an important part of how we approach our work.
Judgment-Free Junk Removal
We also understand that making the initial phone call can sometimes be the hardest part.
Maybe the garage hasn’t been cleaned in 15 years.
Maybe you’re helping a family member whose home has become overwhelming.
Maybe a tenant left a property in terrible condition.
Maybe life simply happened and the clutter got away from you.
We’re there to help, not judge.
Our crew has seen just about every kind of cleanout, and our focus when we arrive is simple: figure out what needs to happen and get to work.

So, How Much Will Your Junk Removal Cost?
The easiest way to find out is to show us what you have.
Because junk removal pricing depends on volume and the specifics of the job, we can often get a good idea of what you’re dealing with from photos or by taking a look at the property.
And if you’re still wondering whether you have a quarter truck, half truck, full truck—or more—start by watching our truck-fill video above.
You may be surprised by just how much our crew can fit into one load.
Whether you’re getting rid of a few bulky items or staring down an entire house full of belongings, you don’t have to tackle it by yourself.
